State and Local Formula Youth Programs
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) authorizes funds to state and local
communities to support workforce training and related activities for
youth who are 14-21; low income; basic skills deficient, a school
dropout, homeless, a parent or parenting, offender, or individuals
including disabled youth that require additional assistance to complete
educational program or hold employment. Local workforce investment
boards (WIBs) must provide the following services to eligible youth:
tutoring, study skills training, dropout prevention strategies, alternative
secondary school services, summer employment opportunities, paid and
unpaid work experiences, and occupational skill training.
